Airports & Aviation
Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Air Quality Procedures for Civilian Airports & Air Force Bases and Guidance for Quantifying Speciated Organic Gases from Airport Sources; both publications are used nationwide for airport air quality assessments. Instructors for FAA’s Airport Air Quality and Emissions & Dispersion Modeling System (EDMS) Course and member of the Airport Environmental Design Tool (AEDT) Group.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Developer and Lead Instructor for the 2010 Aviation and Climate Change Colloquium Tutorial. Technical consultant and editor on the development of the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) Airport Air Quality Guidance Manual.
National Academy of Sciences, Transportation Research Board (TRB), Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Projects. Involved in several ACRP research initiatives designed to reduce the air quality impacts of airport-related emission sources. These assignments comprise:
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (Atlanta, GA) Noise and Air Quality Services - Involved in multiple projects and assignments for all sources of noise and air emissions at this, the world’s busiest airport. Assignments include noise and air quality assessments of airport improvement projects, construction-related emissions and mitigation measures, as well as emission reduction funding applications. Also involved in the preparation of all the (FAR) Part 150 Noise Study and prepare aircraft noise contours for ATL using the FAA’s Integrated Noise Model (INM) the airport’s Noise and Operations Monitoring System (NOMS).
Baltimore Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (Baltimore, MD) Air Quality Services – Involved in the development of the first “Air Quality Management Plan” and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory for BWI-Marshall. This work serves as the basis for future, longer-range air quality initiatives at the airport.
Boston Logan International Airport (Boston, MA) Air Quality Services - Involved in the preparation of several important air quality assessments at this airport including the “Logan Air Quality Initiative” (AQI), the annual “Environmental Data Report” (EDR) Air Quality Reduction Plan and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, the “Long-Term Air Quality Monitoring Program”, and the “Logan Airside Improvement Program” (LAIP) air quality analyses.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport (Chicago, IL) Air Quality Services – Preparation of comprehensive air quality impact assessments, atmospheric dispersion modeling and mitigation measures of both construction- and operational-related emissions associated with the O’Hare Modernization Program.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (Houston, TX) Air Quality Services - Involved in the preparation of comprehensive air emission inventories for all airport-related sources associated with the construction and operational of the HAS Modernization Program. The outcomes are also used in support of the Houston Area State Implementation Plan (SIP).
Los Angeles World Airports (Los Angeles, CA) Air Quality Services - Involved in numerous air quality assessments and initiatives in support of the new LAX Master Plan. Assignments include the preparation of the Mitigation & Monitoring Plan for Air Quality (Framework, Construction, Operations and Transportation); and technical support for the LAX Air Quality and Source Apportionment Study.
Oslo International Airport (Norway) Air Quality Services - Involved in the preparation of an air quality assessment model for OSL used support of their on-going air quality monitoring and airfield modernization plan. Also prepared and delivered training course to airport and agency personnel on the model application.
Philadelphia International Airport (Philadelphia, PA) Air Quality Services – Involved in the preparation of comprehensive air quality impact assessments, atmospheric dispersion modeling and assessment mitigation measures of both construction- and operational-related emissions associated with the PHL Capacity Enhancement Program. Required extensive agency coordination and a General Conformity Determination under the federal Clean Air Act.
San Diego International Airport (San Diego, CA) Air Quality Services - Involved in the preparation of several important air quality assessments and initiatives at this airport including the SAN Master Plan Environmental Impact Report, the SAN Greenhouse Gas and Carbon Reduction (GHG) Reduction Plan, and the Green Build Contractors Air Emissions Management Plan.
Santa Barbara International Airport (Santa Barbara, CA) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory and Carbon Reduction Plan - Involved the identification, characterization and quantification of all “direct” and “indirect” GHG emission sources. This “first-ever” and important initiative served as the basis for immediate- and long-term carbon reduction measures at the airport.
